Dr John Bate graduated from The University of New South Wales in 2001 and undertook internship and basic physician training in the Hunter Area Health Service. He completed gastroenterology training, including a year as the hepatology fellow, at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and received his FRACP in 2009. He subsequently spent 18 months in the United Kingdom as the hepatology/ liver transplant fellow at St James’s University Hospital, Leeds, the third largest liver transplant unit in the country.
