Formerly in general practice for 25 years, Dr Helen Patroney commenced working in the specialised field of Bariatrics in 2005. She has wide experience in all areas of medical weight management including the long term care of patients after bariatric surgery.
Dr Patroney graduated in the inaugural medical cohort from Flinders University in 1980 with a degree of Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS).
She works full time at Australian Metabolic and Obesity Surgery (AMOS) both consulting with patients and assisting in surgery.
Chronic Disease management has always been the main focus of general medical practice so the move into her special interest area of Overweight and Obesity management in 2005 was a natural transition.
Since then Dr Patroney has gained vast experience in assessing and managing patients with Obesity and Weight related medical conditions, specifically, assessment and preparation of patients for bariatric surgery, long term after-care including behavioural, nutritional and metabolic support and monitoring.
Dr Patroney is associated with both Australian and International Obesity networks which provide her with ongoing professional development and knowledge in this fast changing area of medical practice.
