Hepatology

Hepatology is the speciality that looks after the medical conditions that relate to liver. All gastroenterologists are trained in both gastroenterology – (link) as well as Hepatology, although some have a particular sub-interest in liver disease.

Common conditions that hepatologists would manage include viral hepatitis, liver disease due to the effects of alcohol and drugs, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), autoimmune hepatitis, biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis.
