For patients

Fees

As each doctor charges differently, gaps will vary. Please ask about the fees specific to your doctor upon booking or at your first appointment. You will be provided with a full quote (informed financial consent) prior to any procedures.

Private patients

If you are attending SA Group of Specialists as a private patient (that is, with private health insurance), you may still have a gap to pay for each of your appointments. This is because, if you are seeing a GP or specialist, you are classed as an ‘outpatient’. This means only Medicare can cover the cost of your appointment, which is 85% of the scheduled fee (a fee set by them).

If you see an allied health provider (such as a dietitian or psychologist) this is generally not covered under Medicare (unless you are under an Enhanced Primary Care plan) and may be partially covered by your ‘extras’ health insurance (depending on your level of cover).

Uninsured patients

You may wish to seek private treatment despite not having health insurance. In this case, you may still be eligible for a Medicare rebate for your appointments, however you will be liable for the high costs associated with hospital treatment. We can provide a full quote (informed financial consent) if this is required.

Payments

You will be required to pay your account in full on the day. If you are eligible to claim a Medicare rebate you can swipe your card and receive your rebate direct back into your bank account. If you are eligible to claim a Private Health Insurance rebate, you can swipe your card and simply pay the ‘gap’.

We accept:

  • Cash
  • Credit Card (MasterCard and Visa)
  • Debit Card/EFTPOS

Appointments

For most of our specialists (excluding GP and allied health practitioners) you will require a valid referral from your GP or another specialist. You can request an appointment online or call the site at which your specialist works.

On the day of your appointment, please ensure you:

  • bring your referral with you,
  • arrive 10 minutes early to fill out any paperwork,
  • bring your Medicare, concession and private health insurance cards,
  • bring information on all current medications (including over the counter or herbal preparations),
  • bring any relevant tests or scans, and
  • are prepared with any questions you may have.

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible by calling the site direct. Failure to provide at least 24 hours’ notice may result in a non-attendance fee.
